Granite is a felsic intrusive igneous rock formed from magma emplaced so deep within the earth’s crust. These rocks contain quartz, feldspar and mica but it may also contain traces of other minerals such as pyrite. Granites are available in a broad range of colures including black, green, white, red, brown and even blue. Granite is generally deliberate the strongest and most durable commercial stone type owing to the fact that the Most of the minerals within these stones are hard giving the stone a high abrasion resistance. Granite can be formed in a wide range of finishes such as polished, sawn, honed, flamed and wire-brushed making it suitable for a broad range of locations from hotel lobbies to kitchen and bathrooms. Granite can be brought to a high polish; nevertheless, the final appearance is affected by the mineralogy and grain size.
